A great manga
Review date: 2008-07-04 Rating: 10 out of 10

Ichigo Kurosaki is an ordinary high school student in all respects except one; he can see the spirits of the dead. One night he and his family are attacked by a monstrous spirit but he is saved when the Soul Reaper Rukia Kuchiki intervenes and lends him some of her powers. However, something goes wrong with the transfer and Ichigo drains Rukia of all her powers and becomes a fully fledged Soul Reaper. Ichigo must now learn to accept his calling as a Soul Reaper and protect the innocent from the spirits of the dead.

I am a great fan of the Bleach anime series and as I am now starting to slowly get into manga as well I thought I could do far worse than read this, and thankfully the manga is just as good as, if not better than, the anime. This first volume is everything that the anime is and more, it is interesting, funny and engrossing. The art is good, as is the plot and the writing is very good. I am greatly looking forward to reading more of the series.

amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bleach... a Review
Review date: 2007-10-28 Rating: 10 out of 10

After flipping throught the manga at a local bookshop recently, and hearing good things about the anime i started to watch it. As a series it blew my mind. I was truly amazed by the quality of it, the tense storyline and the exquisite animation, its not overblown or choppy or even overly stylised, its just right.

So then i thought i'd pick up the source material, and i am very glad that i did. Having never read manga properly before it took a while to adjust with the right-left reading style, but i daresay that i have found it a more satisfying read than most books i own. It's violent, stylish and quite often very funny with lots of blink-and-you'll-miss them visual gags.

but undneath this there is a serious more emotional side to it, a boy that wants to do nothing more than to protect those whom he loves, and taking many risks in order to do so.

If you're an existing Shohen manga fan this is a must, if you are new to the genre then you could do a whole lot worse than Tite Kubo's Bleach.

Must buy book for manga fans!

Ichigo Kurosaki is a normal teenage boy, with a special talent for seeing ghosts. He bumps into Rukia Kuchiki, a death-god and a Hollow. Rukia's job is to try and get rid of hollows (negative souls) and she tries to save Ichigo's family from the Hollow. Unfortunately she gets injured and transfers her powers to Ichigo, so he can defeat the Hollow. Ichigo does, but it turns out he has taken all of Rukia's power and he must battle the Hollows while Rukia regains her strengh.
The drawings are brilliant and it dosnt leave you bored for one page. The cast of characters improve as the series goes on and the characters are not shallow, and have quite interestng pasts.
If you're a manga fan, this is a must-buy and should go to the top of the shopping list. The only disadvantage is that the series is very long, containing 29 volumes and still going strong. Expensive, but well worth the money.
